We hired Joe to build a 3-story addition to our home, a “6-9 month job”. 18 months later the project is still not completed. The basement is not finished, and construction of our back deck has not even started despite the fact that we paid him for materials several months ago. No time frame has been given for completion or final inspection.

Getting workers to show up has become increasingly difficult, bordering on impossible. Joe disappears and ignores our calls for days or weeks at a time. When we finally do get a hold of him, we hear a lot of excuses and promises about finishing the work, most of which are soon broken.

We cannot wait any longer so will now begin the process of getting quotes from other contractors to finish the job and pass final inspection since Joe can’t or won’t. We plan to sue for these additional costs, plus the cost of materials that were paid for but not delivered.

Do not work with this company no matter what price they quote you. If you do some research, you’ll find a lot of one star reviews telling a story similar to ours. The way he has treated us is unacceptable and I wouldn’t want anybody else to go through what we have on this project.

We hired Joe Savage for a new garage/barn build. Joe is extremely honest and dependable. He was always available for any questions and was always up front with any delays or possible issues. All the subs that Joe uses are top notch. The entire job was done to perfection and we look forward to using him again in the future.

We converted an unfinished, uninsulated attic into an additional bedroom. Throughout the project Joe was available when questions arose and responded to calls and texts in a timely manner. His workers were courteous and took care to protect entry stairs and halls with tarps. From demo and framing to insulation, sheet rocking, flooring and painting the work flowed smoothly with minimal interruption between phases. We would certainly recommend his company for home improvement projects.

I recently used Savage Home Improv. for a patio built and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Joe is very responsive AND attentive. Hired Joe and his crew for a two weeks renovation job involving gutting and upgrading a bathroom, flooring, painting and new wall. The work was impecable and the team is extremely productve, efficient, attentive to details and flexible. Joe was upfront, responsive, honest, and reasonable. Job was completed on time and withn budget, which is the best outcome any client can ask for. Overall, very impressed and extremely happy with the results, and would certainly hire these guys again for any future home improvement projects.

We found Savage Home Improvements on buildzoom.com and they were rated amongst the top 1% contractors serving NJ. That and the positive reviews inclined us to invite him for getting the estimate for the master suite addition. Joe promptly visited the property along with his architect and discussed with us what we had in mind. To our pleasant surprise we were even sent the first draft of the plan that very evening. The improvements suggested over what we had in mind really impressed us and helped us make our decision to go with them immediately. The price quoted by him wasn’t the cheapest but I would say reasonable.
Joe was always there to manage all the paperwork to township permits and started the work promptly on approval. There were few challenges and delays along the way but Joe always found the way out. He is very professional in his approach and is an excellent manager. He single-handedly took care of all the township inspections and sometimes even had to wait all day at the site. His staff is very friendly, helpful and hard working. As a homeowner we never had to worry about any paperwork, building plans, permits, material, inspections at any point of the project.
Overall quality of work is of high standard and we have already recommended him to our friends and neighbors. Would surely hire him for any future home improvement projects.

Joe savage and his team were able to help my wife and I renovate a rental unit apartment,that needed a complete makeover. I told him what our budget was and what we needed done, and his knowledge of permits and town codes was extremely helpful. Joe is a good contractor that I would hire again. He provided ideas and suggestions as to what would be best. His team lead by Mike was meticulous and the craftsmanship shows even though it was not a high end job.

They are expensive i thought he will work in timely manner and perfect. I gave him contract to remodel bathroom , Small openwardrobe and bedroom paint ($6000 including material )and crown moulding & led light install in bedroom (additional price $1400) , 3 Picture frame moulding ($400) , PLUMBING JACUZZI AND SHOWER "was included in remodel" BUT still they asked extra ($1200 including labour & sheetrock fix in basement after leackage stop) i had no choice but to say yes . and he said he need money first so he can pay his worker .
On contract it was written job will be complete in 7 - 10 days
But he took 3 months and more for one job "he didn't even complete his job till yet"
He left all the open walls at Jacuzzi, basement cieling , whatever he did in bathroom plumbing its still leaking. Bathroom mirror and chandelier is not placed. Left the floor unclean. I called him many time to complete the work but he never came back . DON'T HIRE HIM .

Joe and his crew did an excellent job on the new sheet rock and moulding in my living room. They were neat and courteous. He had the job completed in 2 days as he said he would! I would definitely refer him if you want a beautiful new look to your home! Thanks Joe, job well done!

We had Joe do our bathroom from scratch. It was a total mess and he turned it into my exact vision. Joe and his team did a great job on a recent remodel for us. His pricing was fair and he was able to guide us through a few setbacks and issues with working on an older home. It took a bit longer than expected (partly due to us adding to the scope of the project), however we are very happy with the end product.

I appreciate working with Joe because he is a problem solver who respects the budget. Joe listens to what the owner wants, and tries to work within those parameters. I’ve met a number of contractors who are ONLY willing do things their way. I prefer working with a collaborator like Joe.

A number of these projects did take longer than expected, but for many different reasons. Some delays came because of the design process (revisions or adding to the scope), some came from the wait for permits. Some delays come from waiting for a subcontractor to be available. In each situation, Savage Home Improvements completed the work through inspections and the owners were happy with the end results

We hired Joe Savage to build an extension on our house. What was supposed to be a 4- 6-week project is now 6 months and not nearly finished. We have had problems every step of the way. He asked us for another payment before it was due with the promise framing would be completed before he went on vacation. That was a complete lie, it was not started until 2 months after he returned. Then he tells us he has no money to pay for materials or to pay his workers. He blackmailed us into giving him final payment while our house was wide opened. After we paid, the door was still not put up and my husband had to board it up with plywood himself. They did not use a dumpster and left the inside of my house and backyard a disaster with piled up wood, dirt, and debris. I share a fence with my neighbors and they are forced to look at this mess for months now.Joe Savage told us he's refinancing his home and will finish but that was weeks ago. This guy has a Rolodex of excuses..multiple car accidents, hospitalizations, blaming supply company, his workers, or just simply miscommunication.. He turned what was supposed to be a cool experience into a nightmare.

Update: I agreed to take down this review with the promise of work completed, but was lied to for the last time...

What started out as a good experience completely changed after I gave Joe my final payment (my mistake to do so). There was still some work to be done, probably only one full days worth, and I was told he would be back the following week. I was told he was coming back over and over and they never showed up without any notice one way or the other.
It is now 7 weeks since the last time they were at the job and all communication at this point has gone dark. I wish it had gone a different way as it seemed like Joe was a nice guy, but I am now seeking legal action to remedy the situation.

We have been very happy working with Savage Home Improvements. The project was to build a gym in a detached garage. We interviewed several contractors and selected Joe because he had good ideas, and was very professional. His quote was within $200 of the other quotes. His workmanship was of the highest quality, he followed up with me throughout the project to make sure things were going according to our expectations, and we are very happy with the work. I enjoyed working with Joe, and would do so again.

Used him to add a bedroom suite. He never finished. Took him a year to do what he did do but refused to finish after he has most of my money. Once he had a deposit from another contract he was very hard to find. After I posted this review, he contacted me and said if I took it down he would finish the work. I finally agreed and sent him multiple messages stating as such. He would not respond to any of them. DO NOT USE HIM.

I hired Joe savage to remodel my master bath. As soon as he got got the deposit his attitude changed for the worse. It took way longer to complete than I initially told, he didn't show up when promised and in the end, we were displeased with the quality of workmanship. I would never hire him again nor would I recommend him.

I needed a small bathroom remodel and repair. I met him a week ago. I showered in my new bathroom this morning. He fixed any underlying issues with the plumbing, did the usual remodel work, provided advice and made me feel comfortable with going to work while he and his men did theirs. The parts and fixtures he purchased were accompanied by the receipts, which based on other estimates I received is not universal. Even though the job had more work and the house was older, there was no "um this was not in the estimate ..." He gave me an estimate kept to it exactly. Perhaps just as important, everyone that saw pix of the new bathroom loved it. You could not ask for a better experience.

I was looking for someone to install trim in my newly built house (base, crown moulding, window casing and sills total around $7k worth of work), my supplier of trim found Joe online and recommended him purely based on feedback. I was sceptical at the beginning but after talking to Joe a number of times decided to give him this job. They started on the day we agreed and showed up every day until completion. My walls weren't perfect in some areas which was a challenge but they did a good job at the end. Weeks later I asked Joe to come back because my blinds installer had some concerns over casing. In situations like that most contractors get defensive and will tell you "it's not my problem" or "i'm not coming back". Joe came, I explained these concerns and he said that if I really wanted to change some things he could do it without charging. At the end it wasn't necessary but I liked his attitude.

Joe is the most honest, reliable and straight forward contractor I have ever dealt with. He did outdoor porch / kitchen for me, From the estimate until the final completion he did everything he said he would on time, on budget and with great craftsmanship. I was verry happy with the entire experience. Definitely will use him again in the future.

Joe and his team remodeled our kitchen. We love it. Joe worked tirelessly to make sure the job was done to my specifications. He was with is every step of the process and helped us fix issues with lowes with regards to cabinets and missing sink parts. They also came out last week to repair my roof vent in a day's notice for a third of costs quoted by other contractors.

I have known Joe for a number of years and vouch for his honesty and pro-active demeanor. Joe is a professional in every sense of the word, a great family man and a good friend. Joe Savage just finished renovating my house, I am a first time homeowner who bought a house in dire need of upgrades, I interviewed several contractors and decided on Joe because he came across as the most honest and capable of dealing with the task at hand, he did not let us down, the house came out better than we expected. This house, like many, presented dificulties which were tackled by Joe and his team the way a homeowner would like it. My house had the electrical system upgraded, new kitchen, new flooring throughout the entire home, new doors, a few windows were replaced, siding, pretty much gutted the 1st floor, ceiling in living room...i would not hesitate to use Joe again for any renovations but I wont be needing him anytime soon because he did such a great job, I can however recommend him to any who are looking for a contractor who can communicate honestly with the customer, who does what you ask for even if it seems nearly impossible and who does it with quality and integrity, its how every homeowner wants their home treated. Joe Savage is a ONE OF A KIND contractor! My wife and I met with 5 other contractors before meeting Joe to get ideas and estimates for coffered ceilings in our living room, brick work on walls, custom trim work in foyer and dining rooms, custom wood work in the office, and lighting throughout the house. Each of the contractors that previously met with had no additional ideas on top of what we were interested in doing, not to mention completely inflated prices! We then met Joe Savage. We talked through our ideas with him, and he provided us with a host of creative ideas that totally aligned with our style, including how to save money!!!! Joe is not only a contractor, he is a designer! He sat down with us and created some drawings of the various work he proposed for us. We liked them all! Joe priced out the work and was MUCH more competitive compared to the other contractors. Once Joe started the job, he was professional throughout the entire process, very easy to work with, and was able to get the job done in record timing compared to any of the other estimates I received. There was never a time that I had issues with him or his crew. Our friends and family came to see our house once Joe completed the job, and they were AMAZED!!
